New greenhouse tomato nursery, situated in Samos, Greece

Our client is a well established Dutch vegetable import and export company, with close ties to Greece. Although they have not been previously involved in vegetable growing, they have significant experience of handling, storing and transporting fruit and vegetables. Our client is currently supplying the domestic market in Greece with exported goods but has seen an opportunity to reduce delivery costs and improve supply. They are therefore building a tomato nursery to initially supply the Greek tomato market during the winter months, but are ultimately looking to also export goods from Greece.

This is a vacancy for a grower with enough direct experience of growing truss tomatoes to be able to manage the start up of a new 1 ha nursery. If you are looking for a new project which will be a challenge but on a manageable scale for a young grower, then this may be the right opportunity for you. You will be responsible for training two young agronomists to operate all aspects of the greenhouse including irrigation, pest control and cooling. You will have the ambition to build something new and ultimately expand the nursery to 3 ha. The right candidate will be a good communicator with strong training skills and a desire to see the project succeed.

- Further education level of working and thinking

- Relevant technical knowledge of tomato growing

- A number of years experience in the field of greenhouse vegetable production

- Good communication and management skills

- Experience with Word and Excel

- Accuracy and problem solving skills

- Calm and positive attitude

- Ready and prepared to live in Greece

- A good knowledge of the English language particularly verbally is preferred

- Willingness to settle on a Greek island for a period of time

This vacancy comes with a total package of salary, accommodation and transportation. The nursery is situated on one of the most beautiful islands of Greece; the island of Samos, which has typical local amenities. There are no international schools so if the candidate was moving with family to the location, children would need to be home or locally Greek schooled.
